Bangtown: Vancouver's best beard spot.


They say if you want something done right, you should do it yourself… 
HOWEVER... anyone with a beard knows that's easier said than done. I leave my beard in the talented hands of my main man Kurt at Vancouver's own Bangtown on Pender Street. Kurt is as skilled as he is charming, and makes you feel like royalty from start to finish. The hot neck shave with a straight razor at the end of the trim adds the perfect touch of old world generosity that makes you walk out of there feeling like a million bucks. 

There is an undeniable science to grooming, so I asked Kurt for his top 4 beard grooming tips

1. The beard is essentially split in to 4 quarters that should be approached individually.
Cheeks & jawline, chin, underline & neck and moustache.

2. Blending the sideburns from the hairline into the cheek is a thoughtful practice that is often overlooked. This attention to detail is one of the many perks of being in the hands of a professional.

3. Be careful when trimming the neckline under the chin and along the jaw. The common position when trimming these areas is with the head tilted upwards so you can see the underneath. This causes the beard to raise and seem as though it needs to be trimmed higher than you think. Once you hold your face at the regular position, the beard line could potentially be too high. 

4. The moustache and chin are the headliners of the beard show. If you are growing out a full beard, its best to grow the moustache down to the lip line and simply trim carefully with scissors. The same goes for the chin. Allow the hair to grown down the chin rather than trimming the whole area. This will encourage the hair to lay flat and smooth. Like a boss.
